THIS NIGHT OF LOVE: Self-Portrait with Monsieur Serge,” a digital film, Tatiana in a silk top hat blends feminine nostalgia with the nightlife of old #Shanghai 上海, paying homage to her émigré grandfather Serge with a Calendar Girl–style pinup. Serge was musical director at Paramount Ballroom (1934–36), performing Shidaiqu #時代曲, Chinese popular #jazz. The soundtrack features “Chinese Wedding” (1928) by Whitey Smith. Neon lights illuminate a collage of Serge’s identity papers against trompe-l’œil walls in Burwood Chinatown, where lanterns glow over modern laneways and street food stalls as jazz drifts through rain-slick reflections.
