DANILEVSKY SISTERS - СЁСТРЫ ДАНИЛЕВСКИЕ Ballerinas - Балерины ✨ Silver stars above their brows, velvet shadows at their shoulders. Preserved in V. D. Zhiganov’s Russians in Shanghai (1936), their portrait holds a fleeting moment of theatrical grace. The caption names them, from left to right: Rufina, Lyudmila, Valentina and “Tamarov”-the final name retained as printed. Their first ballet training came from L. K. Drozdova, a ballerina of the Imperial Theatre; Tamara and Lyudmila subsequently studied with Imperial Ballet soloist K. P. Makletsova. П. Lyudmila and Tamara began their performing careers in Vladivostok in 1920. By 1925, all the sisters were dancing in Shanghai, appearing at the Carlton, the Majestic and other establishments. In 1929, they left for a three-year tour of Japan, travelling from there to the Philippine Islands by invitation.
